This site includes the history of the family run department stores business, Suters Ltd in Slough and Uxbridge that were the key retailers in these two towns in the south of England for well over half a century until the late 1970s. It starts with the shop in Ledbury - G.W.Suter and includes branches of Suters in Ashford (Middlesex) Ruislip and Windsor. There is one version of the history of the business that has been written by one of the members of the family, Tom Suter who was involved in the company for more than twenty five years with an introduction by Philip Suter. Another family member Richard Ensor has also compiled an in depth history of the company and the towns of Slough and Uxbridge in which the Suters Department Stores were based, plus its origins in Ledbury, Herefordshire from 1745 to 1978 and the family personalities involved in the business. After the sale of Suters in 1978, what happened to various family members involved with the company is also covered. John Suter who was the last chairman of Suters Ltd and a prominent member of the Rotary Club of Uxbridge is also featured together with other members of the Suter family including John's brothers Arthur, Clarence and Frank. There are a series of articles by Dick Suter and Ginny Suter who passed away in 2013. They go back to when Dick wrote articles for Autosport in the 1960's and include the time that they were both involved with magazines in Brussels.
